Heartfulness Wisdom
Opening young minds to the search for truth.
Every year since 1988 an invitation has been sent out across India inviting young people to turn their hearts and minds to ideas that could change their lives – and the world.
And each year – in commemoration of the UN International Day of Youth – several hundreds of thousands of India’s youth respond by drafting an essay on a theme related to their personal development and the fate of the planet:
A soul at peace with itself makes peace possible in the world
The greatest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it
There is a wisdom of the head and a wisdom of the heart
This annual essay-writing project is sponsored by the Shri Ram Chandra Mission, in partnership with the United Nations Information Centre for India and Bhutan (UNIC) and the Heartfulness Education Trust.
In 2017, close to 11,000 educational institutions and administrators participated in the essay-writing project; thousands more teachers mentored students in preparing their essays, which are written in English, Hindi, and in other languages of India.
Approximately 118,000 essays – submitted by students in classes 9 through 12, and by undergraduate and post-graduate students – were selected for review at the state level
Outstanding essays written were recognized at the state level; national honors were awarded ten essays submitted in English and in Hindi
