PEARL WEBINAR
May 8th 2021
Overview
Universal spiritual humanism as understood in the context of Vedanta philosophy (In the context of Advaita philosophy, to be more specific) implies the application of humanist principles in our everyday life, involving humanism’s many-sided expressions in our thought, action, and words. The whole humanity, i.e., the whole creation, is one spiritual family. The highest form of worshipping God is to look upon our fellow human beings as non-different from ourselves. On the one hand, this helps us to have peace of mind; on the other hand, it helps us to be better human beings in our interactions with others. In this respect, spirituality goes beyond the conventional definitions of religion. Universal spiritual humanism enables us to evolve beyond our narrow, possessive individualism and helps us to see all our actions as the expressions of the divine within us, and also to recognize the presence of the same divine in others. We can see the presence of God not only inside, but also outside, the places of worship. We begin to realize that our welfare, our prosperity, our happiness, and our evolution cannot happen without the involvement of others, cannot occur independently of others. What we need today is the healing and unifying touch of practical and universal spirituality. In other words, religion should express itself as universal spiritual humanism, which is practical spirituality with a healing touch for the problems in our practical life.
