<h3 style="text-align:center;">DEVELOPING PEACE INSIDE OUT</h3><h4>DR. RANJANI IYER, SYLVIE BERTI-ROSSI, and SHARAT HEGDE from the Peacefulness Movement explore the need for peace with globalization and increasingly rich diversity across the world.&nbsp;</h4>&nbsp;According to the Oxford English Dictionary, “diversity” is defined as “the practice or quality of including or involving people from a range of different social and ethnic backgrounds and of different genders, sexual orientations, etc.” We see diversity as a huge strength in developing creative and critical thinking to promote excellence, efficiency, and overall well-being. This applies to corporates, educational institutions, and other organizations that work collaboratively to utilize diverse perspectives to increase engagement and robust interactions.&nbsp;With diversity comes the need for conflict management due to differences in perspectives, knowledge, and points of view. One of the ways to embrace diversity is to “TAP into <a href="https://heartfulness.org/magazine/the-secret-of-life-keep-moving" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Peacefulness</a>” and learn to maintain an attitude of mutual respect, open-mindedness, willingness to listen, and collaborative working in peace.&nbsp;TAP into Peacefulness can build skills to connect within and with each other. By becoming peaceful, by being peace, we radiate peace and become peaceful ambassadors. Here is how to do it:<h4 style="text-align:justify;">1. Take a moment to pause:&nbsp;</h4>Research suggests that the practice of pause helps in creating the space to relate emotions and activates the parasympathetic nervous system to induce the feeling of calmness.&nbsp;<a href="https://hbr.org/2015/02/5-ways-to-become-more-self-aware">Self-awareness</a> lies at the root of strong character, giving us the ability to lead with a sense of purpose, authenticity, openness, and trust.&nbsp;You can use a daily check-in to create self-awareness and develop an inner connection to understand your&nbsp;<a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/1DNjq_k9BPlW6bh9v2Dg6w5RabuHkbJ0S/view?usp=sharing">feelings and emotions</a>, use the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.mindful.org/the-power-of-pause/">power of pause practice</a> to schedule a one to two minute break in between your busy schedule, or even take an unscheduled short break to avoid mental fatigue. A calm and reflective mind leads to correct thinking and right understanding, that will help you be more efficient, avoid stress and be at peace.&nbsp;<figure class="image"><img src="https://cdn-prod-static.heartfulness.org/TAP_into_Peacefulness2_dfe40483c4.jpg"></figure><h4 style="text-align:justify;">2. Adopt the attitude, be one with yourself:&nbsp;</h4>A positive mindset promotes creativity, empathy, connection, and resilience to overcome difficulties more quickly. Silently repeat the words of the intention, and go slowly enough that you can both imagine and feel its true meaning. Let it spread to everything and everyone around you.<figure class="image"><img src="https://cdn-prod-static.heartfulness.org/Hand_ebebb9124c.webp"></figure>Everyone can benefit by learning ways to tap into peace, as it promotes interconnectedness and inclusion that help us to handle conflicts and collaborate in a more empathetic and effective way. TAP into Peacefulness  

<h4 style="text-align:justify;">JOHANNA VILHJALMSDOTTIR and SYLVIE BERTI ROSSI offer us a glimpse of this year’s Spirit of Humanity Forum’s retreat in Iceland. They also share insights from some of the participants on the final day.</h4>The 2023 Spirit of Humanity Forum was held from 31 May to 3 June in Reykjavik and Hveragerði, Iceland. One hundred and twenty leaders from 27 countries and diverse fields came together to explore the theme “Healing a World in Crisis – Leading with Authenticity and Love.”&nbsp;After ten years of existence, this sixth edition of the forum moved away from the usual panel discussions to embrace a retreat format, offering us all a unique and transformative experience that had a lasting impact on our lives. The commitment, confidence, and courage of the group to embark on a profound journey surpassed the expectations of the organizers and made their dream a reality.&nbsp;The opening reception was hosted by the City of Reykjavik at City Hall, and an atmosphere of authentic sharing was established, fostering unity among participants from all corners of the world. Over the next three days, the retreat provided an opportunity to set aside roles and titles and engage at a purely human level.&nbsp;We delved deep into the exploration of authenticity, love, and healing. We cultivated trust, exploring authentic dialogue, the art of listening, and moments of silence, creating an atmosphere conducive to personal growth and collective transformation.One of the highlights was an online interview with the Prime Minister of Iceland, Katrín Jakobsdóttir, who spoke on spirituality, self-reflection, and the importance of care in governance, and her words resonated with the participants, highlighting the significance of personal experiences in leadership.The emphasis on love and compassion as essential elements for a better world was prominent throughout. Guðni Thorlacius Jóhannesson, the President of Iceland, stressed the importance of genuine care for one another in restoring peace globally. His message catalyzed many to share their experiences and perspectives, reinforcing the notion of a shared humanity and the hope for a brighter future.The forum concluded with “The Language of Peace,” a public event organized in the Fríkirkjan church in Reykjavík, where some of the participants shared their reflections.&nbsp;As we approach the International Day of Peace on September 21, we invite you to listen to some of these touching voices from different continents, cultures, languages, and professional backgrounds. Each voice speaks of peace in their own way, through a poem, an experience, an encounter, an action, a life situation, or a reflection. But they all carry the same hope in their hearts: that a more peaceful world will come.<h4 style="text-align:center;">LYNDA LEOGAH FORKWA</h4>A typical crisis situation reveals a disconnect at all levels. What do I mean by this? Political disconnect (we can see that all over the world), economic disconnect, social disconnect, cultural disconnect, and sadly, spiritual disconnect.&nbsp;The big question is, how do we encourage the language of peace in our current situation? How do we co-create a regenerative future for all? How do we enable a peaceful coexistence on Earth for all Earth’s citizens? How do we create a global atmosphere where all cultures are respected in their diversity?&nbsp;In my own little way, I encourage the language of peace by tapping from within; tapping into my inner values, tapping into my inner home. What about you? What are the differing levels of contributions to this Earth? How do you intend to make a gesture for others to follow? Coming from an Islamic background, it’s really an honor, and I can’t describe in words how proud I feel of being here with you today in this Forum.&nbsp;I would like to share a quote from a book I read at the beginning of the year, The Secrets of Divine Love. It is written by a Muslim lady, A. Helwa, who tried to redefine Islamic teachings in a very unique way. I’ll share a quote about love, as love is what we’ve been talking about for the last few days.“We polish our heart to unveil the interconnectedness of creation, to embrace the places within us where love lives and compassion flourishes. And to see that beneath all outward defenses we all originate from a single seed of divine vibration. When we fully face Allah [and Allah, by the way, is how we call God in Arabic], we become like a holy mirror that contains the entire world within our love. After all, our journey here is not to just connect with the Divine in worship. But once we do this, to return to that creation as a sign of Allah’s unending love on Earth. You are not just a pottery fashioned from dust and water. You were sent to be Allah’s eyes on Earth. You were sent as a reflection of love and compassion for all those with hurting hearts. You were sent to reflect Allah’s mercy upon the entire universe.&nbsp;“As the 9th century Persian mystic, Iman Junayd said, ‘A Muslim is like Earth. Even if impurities are thrown on it, it will blossom into a green pasture.’ We are called to be like a date tree so rooted in the love of Allah that when people throw stones at you, you reply with food that tastes sweet.”&nbsp;Thank you.<figure class="image"><img src="https://cdn-prod-static.heartfulness.org/language_peace3_b95359e1d2.jpg"></figure><h4 style="text-align:center;">MARTIN FRICK</h4>When I was invited to speak about the language of peace, the first thing I thought about was food because when there is no peace one of the starkest consequences of war is hunger. Today we have 350 million people who are acutely hungry. Despite Covid, despite climate change, the biggest driver of hunger is still war. And hunger is what you get when everything goes belly up with international cooperation. In the end, it’s always the same people going hungry.&nbsp;I also want to speak about food because it’s the most essential, human, and connecting thing I can think of. We are in a Christian church, and breaking bread is the most Christian gesture there is. In every single religious tradition food has a special meaning, because food is not a given, it’s a gift we share. If we are conscious about it, it’s actually a way out of many crises.&nbsp;For example, food connects to climate change in a very direct way. Every year we are losing three times the size of Switzerland to land degradation. If we work together to restore the barren land for agricultural use, we will improve food security, we will bring communities together, we will bring herders and farmers together, we will bring Christians and Muslims together. It is around food that we can do that.&nbsp;The most beautiful thing is actually what makes plants grow. The biggest miracle for me is carbon dioxide. Plants take carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere and use a process called photosynthesis that has been working for 3.5 billion years to bind CO2 and at the same time produce food.So I want to conclude with hope. I’ve been involved with the climate crisis since 2007 when I framed the notion of climate justice. Equitable and fair food production can lead to climate justice. If we get it right, the climate crisis is our common enemy and nothing unites us more than a common enemy. It’s not one human tribe against another human tribe. It’s the human race against an existential threat, and that is my hope.<figure class="image"><img src="https://cdn-prod-static.heartfulness.org/language_peace4_5922e467dc.jpg"></figure><h4 style="text-align:center;">LUNGELWA MAKGOBA</h4>I greet you all in the language of peace and love. I am immensely blessed to be here in this community where I have felt welcomed and experienced love. I would like to share a prayer from my faith tradition in my mother tongue, Xhosa, a language spoken by the majority in the southern part of Southern Africa, the tip of our continent. The language of peace is love, and that’s the language we speak here.&nbsp;As I say these words, and offer you this prayer, it’s a reminder to myself that we stand on holy ground. It is all holy ground, you are holy ground; you are made of the Earth yourselves. We will all go out into the world to feed the hungry spirits and be the love that our world needs. The language of peace is love. I have been asked many times over the past three days, “Who are you?” I’m Lisa, an international civil servant. I’ve been on a journey of inspiration and humility. I so wish I could take you all on this journey and see the incredible moments I’ve lived while traveling and serving in different conflicts across continents, talking to presidents, ministers, political opposition leaders, community elders, women, and young people. I feel deeply privileged for this opportunity. I’ve chosen two examples – one at the very onset of my career, twenty years ago, and a more recent example.&nbsp;Shortly after the independence of Timor-Leste, I traveled there to see what it would be like to build a country, to work with the people. I was invited to a meeting with the President of this newly born country. You imagine presidents living in big palaces, but he did not; he was working from a palace of ashes, a burnt down building. He worked from there for years. He would sleep with the people in the park. He was the President. He was a former fighter for the country’s independence. He wanted to be close to his people. What a humbling experience.Now I’m working in Afghanistan, and I’ve been there for a number of years. I talk to the Taliban and it’s hard. I think the place has really taken me to my limits. I feel at times frustrated, and sometimes angry, but who am I to be angry? I have spoken with some amazing women, and one of these brave young women told me, “Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass. It’s about learning to dance in the rain.” Over the years, these and many other experiences, day-to-day, have humbled me, have made me believe in our common humanity.&nbsp;As I have continued my journey, I have often asked myself, “Who am I to judge?” I keep in mind what a beloved poet, very well known in Afghanistan, said centuries ago, “Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and right doing there is a field. Tami has grown Sounds True into North America’s leading publisher of spoken-word spiritual teachings, and one of the world’s first organizations to operate along genuinely integral principles, with the emphasis on “multiple bottom lines” of purpose, profit, people, and planet.&nbsp;</h4><h4>Here she speaks with EMILIE MOGENSEN about the origins of Sounds True, and her own journey of disseminating spiritual wisdom.</h4><hr>Q: I am a big fan of Tami and I have been listening to her soothing voice for hours and hours, in her extraordinary podcasts and interviews with various thought leaders and spiritual teachers from around the world. This is because Tami is the founder of Sounds True, one of the largest multimedia platforms in the field of consciousness. Tami is also the founder of the educational program, The Inner MBA, a collaboration between Sounds True, LinkedIn, Wisdom 2.0, and Mindful NYU. A normal MBA is a Master’s in Business Administration, whereas The Inner MBA is about how to run a business from the inside out, in a conscious way.I am truly grateful to have this opportunity to speak to Tami. As an entrepreneur and a student at The Inner MBA, it means a lot for my own personal journey. I start our conversation with a little co-creation. Inspired by the yogic wisdom traditions, I invite Tami to do a sankalpa. It’s a way of sending out an intention, a prayerful suggestion for how we want this meeting to unfold. Tami is all in! I would like to start with your very impressive journey as an entrepreneur, from the age of 21.TS: First, let me thank you for starting us on that note of curiosity, openness, unity, service, and contribution.Going back in time, I had left Swarthmore College and traditional academic studies. Although I had a great passion to learn, the kinds of things I was interested in learning about weren’t taught in a traditional academic setting, even in the religion department.I was interested in direct knowing, and things like what happens when we die. Is there something truly deathless in us? I simply had to know the answer and I didn’t want to learn from the written words of others, as it’s something we all have to discover in our own experience.So, I traveled for a year in India, Sri Lanka, and Nepal, and fell in love with the practice of meditation. In some way, I then devoted myself to introduce this and other contemplative practices to as many people as possible. Practices that are the roots to our own inner knowing and source connection. That was my devotion, but I didn’t know how to do it.When I came back to the USA, my parents wanted me to get an academic degree; they said it would be my ticket to everything for the rest of my life.Q: Do you come from an academic family?TS: It was a reformed Jewish family that placed a great deal of emphasis on education. So, there I was, not inspired to get a traditional degree, but deeply inspired by the practice of meditation, lost as a 21-year-old. And at that point in my life, I started saying a prayer: “God, I am willing to do your work. Please show me what it is.”Q: That touches my heart.TS: I was willing without being willful or imposing my own agenda on how my life was going to unfold. But I was also not just like a puddle on the ground. I was willing, and God was going to show me my work and how it would happen. I said that prayer over and over.Interestingly, we began this conversation saying a sankalpa, which is like a prayer of a certain kind, clarifying a positive statement.At 21 I had given up my job in a Chinese restaurant, which I felt was meaningless, and my parents said they would not support me financially if I didn’t get a degree.Q: Were you cool with this?TS: Yes, I was cool with it, but they were not! I went on saying my prayer and waiting to see how my life would unfold.At one stage, I wrote in my diary that I had failed and needed to get a regular job. That was the last entry in the diary before I got a call that my father had passed away from a fatal heart attack. It didn’t come as a surprise, as he had had a couple of heart attacks beforehand.This was back in 1984, and I inherited 50,000 USD, which today would be the equivalent of a little more than 200,000 USD. At the time, I was volunteering at the local radio station, interviewing spiritual teachers. One of the people I was interviewing had a Yin Yang symbol on his door with a dollar sign through the center of it. The words over it were “Transformational economy.”Q: That was pretty progressive back in the 80s, right?TS: Yes, he was an unusual man, and he also worked with crystals. I wanted to understand how he did that, if crystals were like living entities that he was programming in some way. I had no idea, I just wanted to talk to the wizard about crystals!One time, when we were preparing for an interview we were going to do together, I told him I had inherited some money and asked him what I should do with it. I felt he was a good person to ask because he had the Yin Yang symbol with the dollar sign on it. He answered, “Why don’t you put it into yourself?”I felt it was a good idea, except that I had absolutely no idea what to do with myself. He told me to come back after three days, and when I walked out of his oﬃce a very odd thing happened. I felt like I was walking a little bit above the ground, like my feet were not touching the ground, and it was very weird. Then I heard a voice in my head, “Disseminate spiritual wisdom.”<hr><img src="https://cdn-prod-static.heartfulness.org/Sounds_true2_c1ea55366e.jpg" alt=""><hr>Q: So, you were hearing this while you were basically having an out of body experience?TS: I don’t know if I was out of my body, but I didn’t feel like my feet were walking on the ground. It felt like I was walking on air.Q: This is very profound. I need to repeat this: Disseminate spiritual wisdom. Was this your own voice, Tami?TS: To this day, I don’t know. If I were to guess, I think there are diﬀerent kinds of intelligences that are always surrounding us – presences that have diﬀerent functions and interact in diﬀerent ways. As I had put this prayer out to the universe, conditions were all aligning for some kind of messenger intelligence to answer my question. I had sent out this prayer, I wanted to do God’s work, and I had inherited a certain amount of money. Here was a response: Disseminate spiritual wisdom.So, then I started thinking about how I could do this. There was audio, video, and book. Audio seemed good, as I already had a radio show at the community radio station, and people liked the show.I probably had the smallest cottage business in the history of the world associated with the radio show that I hosted. Each week, a handful of people asked for copies of cassette recordings of the interviews I was doing with spiritual teachers. So, I was making copies at home with my little cassette dubbing deck, where it took the time of the interview to copy. I sold the interviews on cassettes for ten dollars each.I was starting to disseminate spiritual wisdom through audio. I was on my way!Q: Wow, I love this, on cassettes! These spiritual teachers you were interviewing at that time, are they people we know now?TS: Yes, they were people teaching in the mid 80s, like Ram Dass, Stephen Levine, Marion Woodman, and Clarissa Pinkola Estés.Q: Those are impressive names! Were you a natural born interviewer, as I feel you are? Your voice is extremely capturing to listen to, which makes me think of one of my favorite spiritual books called Voice Real. It really resonates with me, this thing about voice and sound, and you also called your company Sounds True. Can you speak a little bit about this, please?TS: There is a lot in your question. I think we are instruments as humans. Our body is the instrument and the voice is the expression of that instrument. It’s music that we are making. The more finely-tuned we are in our body, the more coherent we are, the more the energy centers in the body are open and aligned, the more beautiful the sound will be. And it doesn’t have to be a low resonance. Some of the most beautiful voices I know are very high and a diﬀerent kind of intuitive expression of the instrument. I have an openness in the grounded part of my being, an open belly and legs down into the Earth. The voice is an expression of our human instrument.Now, in terms of being a natural interviewer, it’s interesting that from an early age I had a love for radio. In fifth grade, aged ten, I was a part of a special educational program. With a friend of mine, we built a radio out of cardboard and got inside to broadcast from inside that radio. Then, in high school I was on the basketball team. I had a natural competitive side and loved the competitive part of basketball. But I really looked up to the older members of the team and would often interview them on the bus after the game. I pretended that I had a microphone and asked them all sorts of questions. So, I think this was all in me.Often I think about the world more in questions than in answers. Every time an answer comes, I have another question about that answer! It’s a drive in me, and I think all of that is native.Now, to the last part of your question, about the name Sounds True. From an early age I could somehow tell when people were full of sh*t, and it always bothered me. People would come on a news station on TV, for instance, and I would say, “Don’t trust that person!” I could tell when people were fake or phony, somehow, putting up a mask and pretending something. I didn’t like it, and I would feel that the person should not be an authority.On the other hand, when I was around adults who were coherent within themselves, and said things that were true, I could rely on them and it felt that the air in the room was clear. I loved the sound of people who sounded true.So, this was an expression of something really important to me. If I was to learn from somebody, if they were to be an authority figure or a teacher, they had better sound true.<hr><img src="https://cdn-prod-static.heartfulness.org/Sounds_true3_b2d750757b.jpg" alt=""><hr>Q: Was it a conscious decision, when you founded Sounds True as a 21-year-old, that the name of the company would express this value, or was it more intuitive?TS: Well, first I had another name, and thank goodness it was never publicly promoted. [laughter]Q: Will you share this initial name?TS: “Crystal Sound.” I was interviewing this gentleman about crystals, as I mentioned, and I was a 21-year-old hippie girl who loved crystals. There was a purity to them; I felt they encoded information, and I wanted each cassette that we published to be as pure and as long-lasting and valuable for our customers as a crystal. When I went to register the name, there was a mobile DJ unit in Boulder called Crystal Sound, so I couldn’t use that name for the company. It was back to the drawing board. At one stage, I was writing a letter to a teacher of Buddhism with whom I had studied at college. As I was explaining to him what I wanted to do, and why I wanted to do it, the name “Sounds True” came out, and I was like, “That’s it!”To be continued.<hr><hr><h4>Interview by EMILIE MOGENSEN</h4><hr>

 Q: You talked about your competitive side in another
 interview. It
 resonated with me in terms of entrepreneurship, as we are often rather
 competitive people by nature. When you are a spiritual seeker and you are
 running a rather big business in the USA, having to look out for competing
 companies I assume, is there a conflict here?



 TS: Well, I want
 to be 100% truthful with you, Emilie. I think this is a growing edge for me. I
 am not there yet. I’m in the middle of working this whole thing out myself.
 One thing I know is that there is a healthy and an unhealthy side to
 competitiveness in me. The healthy side pushes me to constantly innovate, to
 go for extreme excellence, to always be inventing, and always a step ahead.
 So, it’s a creative force and that’s good. I think the negative side is when I
 compare myself with other people. There is something about that which isn’t
 true, and it isn’t helpful. Everyone has a right to express their best.



 The Inner MBA program at Sounds True is a nine-month immersive
 training program. Lately, we added Spencer Sherman to our faculty, who teaches
 the inner mastery of money. It’s about bringing dharmic meditative
 principles together with the world of money.

 I learned from him a practice rooted in Buddhism, which you can apply in
 business and as a competitive person. I noticed a huge transformation through
 this practice. It’s “sympathetic joy,” which is one of the heavenly abodes.
 You practice sympathetic joy when other people have terrific successes. When
 your business competitors have huge successes, a lot more money to work with,
 or they get a huge account; or when someone writes a New York Times Bestseller
 while you’re still working on your book; practice actually feeling their joy
 as if it were your own. You can take this even further and imagine their
 success becoming bigger! Imagine their face on the cover of a huge magazine,
 and so on.



 It always felt wrong when I was feeling the negative competitive side of
 myself. I was a spiritual practitioner but not wishing others well. It always
 felt fishy somehow, not coherent. I have a strong competitive side to my
 nature, so I wasn’t feeling very aligned within.



 When I started the sympathetic joy practice, I felt much freer. I was like,
 “OMG! That’s the antidote for me.” When I do it, I feel freer and more
 creative. I’m in my own creative flow, and also not operating at a low
 vibrational level of not wishing well for other people, which is against
 everything I stand for and believe.



 Q: I am a student at The Inner MBA. It’s a fantastic
 program. How
 did this co-creation between four organizations (Sounds True, Wisdom 2.0,
 LinkedIn, and Mindful NYU) come into the world?



 TS: I started
 seeing more and more businesses saying, “If we can get our employees to
 practice Mindfulness meditation, they will be less emotionally reactive, they
 will potentially have more innovative ideas, they will feel a sense of
 well-being at work, etc. This is wonderful.”

 As you start getting in touch with the inner realm, which we can call the
 soul’s voice, you get into a soul-liberating process. You might just do a
 simple breath practice, but before you know it, in the depth of your being,
 voices you haven’t heard for so long start speaking to you. When that happens,
 you need your worklife to be congruent with the values, the callings, and the
 creativity of your inner life. A lack of congruence makes you crazy until you
 address it.



 That’s why I thought we needed a community, a program to help people become
 aware of this inner voice, speak to it, and have the courage to re-create the
 world of business, so it’s not a separate world from the values of their inner
 world.



 One of the instructors of The Inner MBA is a woman named Lisa Lahey,
 who is a professor from Harvard. She says, “One of the things you need for
 success is a high level of challenge and a high level of support. You need
 people to talk to, affirmations, community.” So, we tried to create a program
 having both challenge and support.

 Q: I heard you talk about the “dominant culture” in another
 interview and
 it made me think about the massive shift we are in as a collective. I hope
 we all know what the dominant culture has done to our planet and to humans.
 How do you see and experience this evolutionary paradigm shift?



 TS: I think it’s
 a great turning point. Another word for dominant culture could be
 “conventional culture.” I think a lot of us buy into convention for good
 reasons. We want to be accepted, we want other people to like us, we want to
 survive and fit in. We don’t want to be “weirdos”, so we try to be successful
 in conventional terms. The conventional framework is so crushing, and we see
 the results in our society in so many forms, including environmental
 destruction. We see the output of that conventional worldview, and at some
 level, it’s not truly working for any of us. We may not have reasonable air
 quality in the future, so it’s not working unless you have a bubble with an
 oxygen tank inside to walk around in.



 There is an evolutionary pressure that we’re a part of. Some of us might be on
 the early adopter side of it, and some of us might be coming a little later,
 but we’re all getting there. We have to get there!



 This is a strong thing to say, but we’re one being. We are all life-breathing
 together, so we are all feeling this evolutionary impulse moving through us. I
 think one of the early discoveries we have on the spiritual path is that we’re
 a part of an interdependent web. It doesn’t take much meditation, or being
 silent for very long, and tuning into the space around you, to feel connected
 with people, with the whole world — the sun, the sky, and the earth. It
 doesn’t take a lot of meditation to sense that inner connection. It’s not a
 miraculous discovery that only a few great mystics have.



 This subtle sensing is available to all of us. We can feel an other person at
 the other side of the world, right when they are sending us an email. We have
 the capacity to be so tuned in to the interconnected web we are a part of. And
 when we get it inside ourselves, we don’t want to work in conventional
 structures that ignore that.



 To say it’s okay for me to gain when other people don’t have anything, that
 they are not part of this web, that they are separate and diﬀerent, and my
 gain can happen at their expense – you can’t work that way after having the
 experience that all life is breathing together. At least I can’t. To me that
 would be a type of cognitive dissonance that doesn’t feel sane. We have to
 reinvent our businesses and organizations in a way that is reflective of that
 deep inner bodily knowing of our interdependence. And we can do it!



 It’s honoring all the stakeholders – our customers, our investors, our
 employees. I would go so far as to say honoring the future. We hear about 7
 Generations, and we take it even further at Sounds True when I say honoring
 all the stakeholders – the ideas themselves! We honor the great wisdom
 traditions and their teachings as living beings.\

 Q: Beautiful! So, in terms of business and entrepreneurship,
 we should
 honor everything as stakeholders, not only the traditional shareholders who
 put financial capital into the business. What do you feel if I say spiritual
 capital?



 TS: Well, it’s
 our own inner unlimited strength, capacity, love, our soul’s voice. It’s who
 we are in our essence. Our Buddha nature, if you will, is the greatest set of
 capacities any of us possess. In fact, we don’t possess it; it’s something we
 are. And when we know that’s what we are, we have an unlimited amount of
 resiliency.



 People talk about being resilient, but when you know in your soul who and what
 you are, you also know that you’re going to be given the next set of
 instructions you need. Of course! The universe is always creating and
 expressing and growing in love, growing in expansion. And it’s going to come
 through you with the next, the next, and the next – the next way to bring more
 love to more people. And you can rest in that and know that.



 Q: I love your interview with Michael Singer about living in a
 state of
 surrender. So, is that what we must bring into our businesses?



 TS: I hear in
 your question the idea of separating who we are in our personal space (someone
 who surrenders) and then being someone different when we are in the business
 world. When we are in the meditation retreat, we are one way, but in business,
 we will pick up these old conventional ways, the old mindset, because that’s
 business. I completely dispute that framework – this whole idea of two worlds.
 No, there is one world. It’s everywhere we are, this soul resource.
 Why would we make ourselves small and selfish at work – overly mental and
 strategic? Why would we do this when we have available to us this powerful
 creative soul force that is always expressing through us. Why not tap into
 that all the time?

I know a lot of business people who say this, and you could make a case, because entrepreneurs are intensely innovative and have great potential when it comes to solving problems. Take, for example, climate change. We certainly can’t wait for the political bodies to solve anything, so the business sphere had better come up with some really creative solutions. I’m behind the case.But I deeply believe that whoever you are, wherever you are, in education, a police officer, or a medical person, that is your place for change. I happen to be a business person. I spend my days with teams to create new products with educational and transformational value.I want to transform the world. If each one of us took it upon ourselves to say, “This is where I walk, let me transform that, ”that’s powerful. The path of conscious evolution is about committing to our path.Q: I am inspired by your approach to somatic spirituality, “checking in with your body.” I come from a spiritual community and have practiced meditation for 27 years. God bless that. I have also experienced a lot of “spiritual bypassing,” both in myself and others. Sometimes the integration with the body is lacking. It’s new to me to dive so deep into this embodied spirituality, as we do in your program. Let me also link it to what you said about tricking each other’s shadow sides at work, and feelings being the language of the body, according to Dr. Joe Dispenza. Can you put some words on somatic spirituality?TS: First, thank you for asking. This is something really important to me. When people are first interested in a spiritual path they read a lot of books, and they have a lot of ideas, and that’s okay. But it’s not the depths that happen in our somatic experience. What I mean by “soma” is what you can sense and feel, not only in your physical body but also in your energy body, which surrounds your physical body.It’s the space around the heart where you feel in people what is actually going on. You can feel people who have a beautiful and open heart from 50 feet away. They are so bright and vibrant and you just wanna hug them.Our belly is another energy center, and when the belly is open, that’s when you feel someone is really grounded. There’s something about that person that is like a mountain – a constancy. I love hiring people who have a very open belly center. It feels like they have a tap root into the Earth.We also have a head center. That is a big open space, which is unbelievably brilliant. That’s where ideas come that are not just a re-thread of something else you have read. You may read something in a spiritual book and it will take you somewhere, but when your physical sense of openness in the head center is there, then you’re getting downloads, streams of intuition, and light, and possibility, and you don’t even know where they come from.We do our spiritual practices with the awareness of our body and our subtle body, and we start tuning into them. The inner teacher opens up and becomes available. We no longer need to rely on books and teachings because we have an awake intelligent force within us. Grounded, openhearted, and original. We operate from an original place.A better phrase for “spiritual bypass” is “conceptual bypass,” because we’re invested in concepts rather than present-moment direct experience.<hr><hr><h4>We do our spiritual practices&nbsp; with the awareness of our body and&nbsp; our subtle body, and we start tuning into them.&nbsp; The inner teacher opens up and becomes available.&nbsp; We no longer need to rely on books and teachings&nbsp; because we have an awake intelligent force within us.&nbsp; Grounded, openhearted, and original.&nbsp; We operate from an original place.</h4><hr><hr><img src="https://cdn-prod-static.heartfulness.org/what_is_your_path_of_change2_9da793c079.jpg?updated_at=2023-04-11T13:23:22.212Z" alt="">&nbsp;<hr>Q: Please talk about your favorite quote from Herman Hesse.TS: It’s a quote that meant a lot to me in my young life. It’s from his book, Demian: “I wanted only to live in accord with the promptings which came from my true self. Why was that so very difficult?” In the 70s and 80s, being attracted to people of the same gender was something you kept to yourself. So, when I was a teenager, the promptings of my true heart weren’t welcome and didn’t fit into the rational. My family elevated the rational and was not as interested in intuition and emotions. That made me feel like an outsider. I have siblings, but I always felt outside, like I didn’t fit in.I didn’t fit into any of the conventional career paths. It was very difficult to live according to the promptings of my true heart. I’m wired in such a way that if I’m not true to this soul force inside then I can’t do it. Either I have to follow through and do the really difficult things or I will hang myself. As I won’t hang myself, I have to do the difficult things. It’s that intense for me.Q: Google defines “emotional intelligence” as “To be able to hold space for your own and other people’s emotions.” Your team at Sounds True is about 150 employees, so how do you practice emotional intelligence at team meetings when difficult and emotional situations occur?TS: We can all be skillful about our emotions, both in our intimate and professional lives. We can’t just puke all over people when we feel intense emotions, so we have to become processed enough to talk about our emotions and not necessarily from the emotion.We are holding a bigger space and the emotion is arising in it and holds information. It has intelligence, it’s a messenger, and it’s important. And if we can talk about it skillfully, without much charge, our emotional intelligence can bring awareness of the person we are speaking with. It’s really important to model ourselves with the people in the environment, and to translate as needed, to be well received, so that people can take in the intelligence of what we’re saying.For example, when you’re really angry about something, it’s almost always better not to say a lot. I have learned this lesson the hard way, like many people. It’s better to say, “I’m feeling really angry right now. I would like some time to sit with this, and I will get back to you when I feel more processed around it.” Then, when I’m more processed, I can say, “This anger arose because… It’s clear where I need to draw a boundary. I want to share with you what this boundary is, why it’s important to me, and what I am requesting for everyone here on the team.”<hr><img src="https://cdn-prod-static.heartfulness.org/what_is_your_path_of_change3_3f2b25c944.jpg?updated_at=2023-04-11T13:24:47.623Z" alt="">&nbsp;<hr><hr><h4>It’s really important to model ourselves&nbsp; with the people in the environment,&nbsp; and to translate as needed,&nbsp; to be well received,&nbsp; so that people can take in the intelligence&nbsp; of what we’re saying.</h4><hr><hr>Q: What do you feel if I say “nothingness”? How can people in a world full of “something-ness” be interested in nothingness?TS: What I like about the word “nothingness” is that it can’t be pinned down. It can’t be created as a solid anything. I like the pure openness, like an explosion of pure potential and possibility. As soon as you have a reference to a “something,” it’s limited. “Nothing” feels unlimited. I can see that it might feel depressing or blank to some people, but I experience it as a burst of light when you say it.Q: Thank you from the heart, Tami. Q: Hello Tejaswini, it was a pleasure to have you here in Kanha.
 



TM: My visit to Kanha Shanti Vanam came as a blessing.
 Entering Kanha felt like entering Lord Krishna’s Brindavan. I was given a very warm welcome, and everyone had a
 pleasant smile and calm attitude. I had the most beautiful experience visiting all the plantations and learning
 about the ideology behind the plants. I planted a camphor tree, visited the Heartyculture Nursery, and saw thousands
 of varieties of cactus, creepers, flowering plants and more. I visited the laboratory where a few of the most
 endangered species were being propagated through tissue culture. It was a lovely experience holding the miniature
 plants in the culture bottles. I was impressed by how the clean zones were maintained.



I was even more stunned to learn about the rainforest. It took a lot of effort to bring those species of plants here
 from the Western Ghats and the North-East. Normally they don’t grow in arid regions like Hyderabad, so it’s a
 miracle they have grown so well here.

Then I met Daaji, a very simple and approachable man with the nicest of hearts. Daaji was visiting the plants, and he
 gave me a Krishna Kamal flower and explained the concept of the Pandavas and Kauravas. I was extremely lucky to
 meditate with him. Initially, I was filled with gratitude. Later, I forgot I was sitting in front of him. It was
 absolute bliss. I felt deeply connected and want to come back again.



I am thankful to Daaji for his ideology toward Nature, and to all the people who have been working for this
 initiative. I’m blessed to be a part of it.



Q. Since receiving the Miss Earth India title, what have you
 been doing to protect and nurture Mother Earth?



TM: My activities didn’t start because I won the title. I
 have been ecologically sensitized toward Nature and doing various activities since childhood.



Miss Earth happened in the course of my journey, and it inspired me to work more, and made me feel even more
 responsible for protecting Nature for future generations.



Mass tree plantation programs, climate change initiatives, sanitation drives, toilet construction for government
 school children, Say No to single use plastics, beach cleanups, ground water conservation, mass Yoga camps, and
 animal protection have been a few of my campaigns.



I have advocated for major environmental issues from local communities to international platforms, while promoting
 “Each One Plant One! Let’s kill the pollution before it kills us.”



There’s a huge necessity to save Nature. I fear the next generations won’t be able to experience Nature as much as we
 have, and will suffer the consequences of the problems we have created,&nbsp; through no fault of theirs. It’s
 important we all come together to be responsible as the Earth doesn’t belong to humans, humans belong to the Earth.




Q: Do you feel it’s possible?



TM: Yes. I’m doing my best. But there’s so much more we
 need to do. As a responsible citizen, I shall continue to contribute to ecological security.



Q: What inspires you these days?



TM: So far, I have done whatever I could as an
 individual. Now I wish to strive for collective efforts. I wish to be a voice of youth on local to international
 platforms, and advocate for major environmental and humanitarian issues.



I also believe in implementing the action plans in coordination with organizations. Kanha Shanti Vanam is one such
 amazing example of an organization preserving Nature. With the same inspiration, I wish to work together and
 contribute to the vision.

 shaping me to become what I am today. Yoga keeps me active, so I can take up any challenge that may come my way, and
 meditation helps me have a balanced mind, realize my potential, and stay calm even in stressful situations.

Love gives the heart its character. We use the heart symbol often to express our love, sometimes in a text message, or a drawing from a child. If it so obviously represents love, then it makes sense to use it for what it is best known. We know that the physical function of the heart is to supply oxygenated blood through the system, keeping it alive and well. I believe it is similar with the emotional heart as well-love passes through the heart and keeps us emotionally healthy.<h4>Where it all starts</h4>Just as charity starts at home, love is also deeply rooted in its home, the heart. It starts with learning to love yourself. This could be accepting who you are or acknowledging your flaws. The more you learn about yourself, the easier it becomes to understand others. We are all capable of love, it is innately present, we only need to channel it through our hearts to spread it throughout our system.<h4>Is it love?</h4>Love, in the true sense, can only be defined by itself. That is because there is nothing quite like it. If I had to express it in words, I would say the deepest echo of your heart, because it comes from you, just as an echo does. You are the source of love. These echoes from your heart manifest in words, actions, and emotions. A fundamental element of an echo is emptiness, in other words, an absence of obstructions. So, the emptier your heart, the more you can fill it with the echoes of love.<hr><h4 style="text-align:center;">If I had to express it in words, I would say the deepest echo of your heart, because it comes from you, just as an echo does. You are the source of love. These echoes from your heart manifest in words, actions, and emotions.</h4><hr>Think of it as a wavelength of emotion; when you add other aspects, it either enhances the frequency or disturbs it, just as we have disturbances in radio waves from buildings. A common disturbance is expectation. It is like building a dam that controls the flow of a river. Compare that with a mother holding her newborn for the first time; she has only one predominant feeling. The love channeled through her heart is pure and without conditions, allowing it to flow tremendously without the use of will. It is an example of the love we can all harbor in our hearts.<h4>Love is all around</h4>You came into this world as a product of your parent’s love. A mother nurtures her baby with love. In your youth, falling in love is something you look forward to. A lot of your decisions are made with love at the center.From the first time your mother holds you to the last time you hold someone dear, it’s love. It’s not just for humans, it’s there in Nature as well. Mother Nature’s love for you provides everything you need. Love is quite literally in the air. The more you look for it, the more you find it.<h4>Love and attachment</h4>Attachment is common where there is love, but it acts as an obstruction. Since you feel you are a part of the person you love, it affects your judgment, because you subconsciously know that the decisions you make about them will affect you as well.Attachment adds expectation and the idea of possession. On the surface it seems normal to have these feelings, but when things take a turn, it’s the attachment that holds you back from doing what’s best for yourself and the other person. Remember the example of a mother and a new-born. The two were physically attached before birth, but it’s the separation that gives the mother the opportunity to love unconditionally when she sees her baby. Of course, not all of us are mothers, but it serves as an example of what we are capable of.<h4>Loving bad people</h4>How to love everyone? How do you love someone who has done terrible things to you, or terrible things in general? How do you love someone who is in prison for a heinous crime? There are two beautiful ways to do it, and they are prayer and gratitude. You can pray that they are given an opportunity to realize love and change. And you can remain grateful that life provided you with better opportunities, and that you were not in that situation to do something wrong.<hr><h4 style="text-align:center;">The true essence of love is &nbsp;not in feeling but in becoming.</h4><hr><h4>Taking it to the next level</h4>The true essence of love is not in feeling but in becoming.My spiritual guide, Daaji, has always encouraged me to do everything with love in my heart; it is not enough to love everyone, it is better to become love yourself.Why become love? Is it not enough to love everyone? Loving everyone is still a limited ideology, whereas love is infinite. When you become love, you will sustain it. Look at it this way: the Moon shines beautifully, but it depends on the Sun for light. The Sun produces its own light and illuminates everything in its path. When you become love, you illuminate the hearts of others. To harbor infinity, you must become infinite yourself.One question remains: How to become love?The Heartfulness way is helping me. She emphasized the importance of giving back to society, recognizing that personal development must be accompanied by a commitment to serving others.Swami Atmarpit Rakshitji is a committed renunciate, who has dedicated his life to spiritual growth and selfless service under his guru’s guidance. As the editor-in-chief of the monthly magazine, Sadguru Echoes, he actively contributes to his organiation’s activities and teachings. He attributed the beginnings of his spiritual journey to his guru, instilled in him during his youth.Swamiji stressed the significance of having a higher purpose in life, urging individuals to strive to fulfill their potential with sincerity and dedication. He promoted the idea of selfless work. And he shared an acronym for “work” he devised to demonstrate how individuals can discover meaning in their lives: W for worry-free, O for organized planning, R for maintaining relationships and work-life balance, and K for following a spiritually enlightened master who inspires contributions towards societal betterment.Mark Milton focused on active listening in our relationships with others, reminding us that it cannot only be intellectual but has to be with compassion and empathy. He explained that during conversation our mind is usually thinking of how to answer or offer an opinion, so we don’t actually listen to others. We need to bring our awareness to creating another space to stay present, called presencing. According to him, meditation is the best approach, in his case Vipassana. He said that the issues of global warming, wars, etc. are mirroring our relationships together, and when we bring love into our hearts we will manifest it in the world, too. He called this relational consciousness.Dilshahji started his life with very meager means of living, and survived because of the emotional support of his wife. He has now built the MCI group of companies, having offices in almost all ports in India and abroad. One day God was enjoying the beautiful world He had set in motion. 
He loved the sky, sometimes pure blue with white clouds. 
Sometimes filled with gray clouds that turned to rain falling from the sky. 
“What a good idea!” He thought when he saw the yellow sun lighting and warming the earth. 
“And another good idea!” when he saw the silver moon shedding its gentle light in the night sky. 
He loved the plants with their many colors – green, yellow and red leaves; tree trunks shiny gray or deep mottled brown. 
Flowers of red, orange, yellow, blue and purple. 
 
“I love all this,” He thought. “And yet something is missing.” 
“I know, the world needs children! But what color should these children be? 
“Blue like the sky? 
“Green like the leaves? 
“Orange, purple and yellow like the flowers?”
None of those ideas seemed quite right. “I know!” He said. “Let them be the colors of all my favorite candies!” 
“Some of them can be the color of dark chocolate, some of them the color of milk chocolate, some of them the color of caramel, and some of them the color of vanilla taffy.” And so the children were. When God saw the children of all these colors, He was very happy.
“They are all beautiful. They are all my children, and I love them, every one.”

The color of children

She sets the scene by explaining the consciousness shift we are undergoing from a mechanistic worldview to a systems worldview, and how as adults this changes the way we nurture our children.</h4>

Children are different now. People have probably been saying that for centuries, maybe because the adults who say it see things from such a different perspective than when they were children. Or maybe it’s true, that each generation of children is different from the last generation, as humanity evolves. But really, children are different in the last 50 years or so, and may be becoming more and more so, because humanity is not just slowly evolving but has reached a critical juncture where it must either change with lightening speed or largely disappear. 
If you are a parent or teacher, you will probably know the New Children well. They are gifted in many ways. Have you not been amazed at the words that come from the mouths of very young ones – the wisdom, the confidence, the understanding of things that took older generations much longer to learn? Perhaps you know children who are gifted with psychic or healing abilities, or are exceptionally musically or artistically talented? Or those who can do amazing things on computers with little or no instruction? Have you noticed how connection with nature has become an intense need for many children, as important as eating, sleeping and playing? Maybe you know children who are extremely empathic and compassionate, or others who are warrior spirits with high integrity, fiery determination and no tolerance for hypocrisy or manipulation?

These are the New Children, magical in many ways, but often a challenge for their parents and teachers. These New Children have many qualities that don’t easily fit into our accustomed systems of child-rearing or schooling, because these same children may also be:
Extremely strong-willed, to the point of appearing controlling or defiant; 
Explosively angry when they don’t get their way; 
Distractible, impulsive, and disorganized; 
Attention-seeking; 
Wiggly, fidgety and constantly in motion; 
Dreamy and in their own world, seeming not to hear you or notice what is going on around them; 
Sleepy and hard to motivate; 
Absent-minded and scattered; 
Obsessed with certain subjects but uninterested in others; and 
Any mixture of the above.
In this series of articles, we will throw some light on the reasons for the gifts and the challenges, and give some practical recommendations on how best to live with and guide these beings. 
One thing these children have in common is that they march to their own drum, not ours. It is as if they have come into the world “pre-programmed” for certain roles, which may well involve living in completely new ways. Many of our social structures seem to be failing at present, and these are the children who will have to find new, more workable ways of living – in terms of science and technology, social and economic structures, interpersonal relationships, and inner development. In a way, they will be our teachers.
<h4>Humanity is evolving</h4>
Many seers and traditions have foreseen this era as a period of huge transition – the end of an old way of life and the beginning of a revitalized way of being – for the Earth and for humanity. In each tradition, the coming of the new is not without its birth pangs. The transition between the old and the new is seen as a time of great turmoil. It is not hard to see the challenges and upheaval that are present in today’s world – global warming, extreme weather, extinction of a huge number of species, pandemics, social unrest, economic turbulence, terrorism, a growing disparity between rich and poor, and the list goes on. So is the world falling apart? Is it the end of humanity or civilization? Or is it possible that something new and better will emerge?

We can view this question from the point of view of science. Science itself has been undergoing a massive transition from the turn of the 20th century. Physics has evolved from a Newtonian mechanistic view to a quantum view of the world as a network of interconnections and interactions among wave-like probabilities. We must comprehend that the buildings we live and work in are not solid “things,” constructions of wood or brick held together by nails and mortar, but are actually energy fields held together by forces we don’t fully understand. How do we find our way in such a world?
And it doesn’t stop there. Since the 1930s, biologists, chemists, ecologists, mathematicians and others have been working with a similar line of thought, developing a multidisciplinary field known as systems theory. Systems theory also challenges our human tendency to see the world as a collection of separate “things” by shifting our focus from “things” to networks.
Let’s take a human cell as an example. It is not just a building block of something larger, but is a vibrant living system of processes and interrelationships in itself. It is defined by a membrane, and within that membrane it is bustling with activity. The cell transports nutrients through its membrane, transforms the nutrients to energy, and uses that energy to carry out its functions, which vary according to what kind of cell it is. Red blood cells carry oxygen to other parts of the body, white blood cells attack foreign invaders, muscle cells contract to do some work for the greater system of the human body, and so on.

Each cell synthesizes and repairs its own sub-cellular structures, excretes waste products, and changes its activities depending on what is needed for its own well-being or for the organ of which it is a part. It is a highly complex, organized and self-regulating system. No one makes rules or laws about how it should work; it simply finds its own way forward through a process of self-organization. It is as if there is an organizing principle that is part of life itself. 
A cell is its own small world. And yet the cell is nested in a more complex system, an organ, and the organ is part of a still more complex system, the organism – in our example, a human being. Human beings are in turn, parts of still more encompassing systems, such as families, communities, countries and Planet Earth. Humans, along with all the other plant, animal, microbial and mycological species, that live alongside them, make up complex ecosystems. 
At each level, these various living systems are made up of dense and overlapping connections and interrelationships. No part of a system is separate and unaffected by other parts. When any part of a system changes, the whole system changes, often in unpredictable ways. You have probably heard of the butterfly effect, where a butterfly flapping its wings in Siberia causes a snowstorm in Texas. We are that interrelated.
May I illustrate this with a vivid real-life example? In Yellowstone National Park, a beautiful wilderness area in North America, the wolves and the elk had lived together in balance for centuries. 
There were never too many elk, because the wolves ate them. And there were also never too many wolves, because when the wolf population became too big, there weren’t enough elk to feed them all, so some of the wolves would die. Then humans, the great systems unbalancers, intervened. In the late 1800s and early 1900s, ranchers began to kill off the wolves of Yellowstone to protect their cattle. By 1926, the wolves were completely gone.
The elk population blossomed. Hungry elk stripped large areas of the park of vegetation, especially along the river banks, where delicious grasses and young saplings grew. This had a huge impact on the ecosystem. With less vegetation, there was not enough food for the birds, and several species dangerously declined. The population of magnificent grizzly bears dwindled because they did not have enough berries to eat in the winter. Beavers, who depended on the young trees near the rivers for food and for dam building materials, disappeared completely. The riverbanks did not have enough vegetation to prevent erosion during the yearly floods, so their banks washed away, causing the rivers to become wider and more winding. Eliminating wolves from the ecosystem caused rivers to change their course! A small change had huge and unexpected effects. 
Fortunately, these negative effects began reversing when wolves were reintroduced to Yellowstone in 1995. The elk population is now under control. The vegetation is returning, providing food for a greater variety of species and stability for the river banks to prevent further erosion. Beavers have come back into the park and are busily rebuilding their dams that slow the yearly floods to further prevent erosion. The system is rebalancing.
As well as demonstrating the butterfly effect, this story also illustrates another property of living systems: they are governed through internal feedback loops. In most cases, systems are self-balancing, remaining in dynamic equilibrium, like the original balance between wolves and elk in Yellowstone.
When a system is stressed, it can flip into runaway feedback mode, sending it into states of greater and greater imbalance. In our example, when the wolves were eliminated, Yellowstone’s ecosystem became more and more imbalanced and did not have any way to correct the downward spiral until the wolves were finally reintroduced.

There is one last but very significant property of living systems: When a system is stressed and enters a runaway feedback loop, it begins to disintegrate. It then enters what is known as a bifurcation point, where it can continue disintegrating and finally fall apart, or it can jump to a higher level of organization. In other words, when the system’s outlook is at its worst, it has the opportunity to transform and evolve. Very small changes in the system can have powerful and far reaching effects at times of bifurcation.
This is where we tie back in with the New Children. Humanity is currently in a state of disintegration with many runaway feedback loops in action. So which way will we go? To complete disintegration or to a higher level of organization? Small changes could have large and determining effects. This is one reason that I practice Heartfulness Meditation and encourage others to meditate as well. If positive changes occur in enough of us, if a small but critical mass begins to be the change we would like to see in the world, this small shift could just tip the system toward evolution rather than dissolution.
Could the New Children with their special gifts be an important part of this process, a kind of leavening in the system that could powerfully tilt humanity toward evolution? If that is the case, it makes our roles as adult guides even more important. We are the ones who guide children through their challenges so that their beautiful gifts can manifest.

<h4>Domination Culture, 
Partnership Culture</h4>
The transition that I have described in physics and biology, from a mechanistic worldview to a worldview based on energy, relationships, and networks, is reflected in the social sciences as well. Cultural historian and systems scientist, Riane Eisler, differentiates between dominator systems and partnership or connection systems. Dominator systems are top-down, hierarchical social structures that see humans as innately selfish or aggressive, and in need of being controlled. They use fear, reward and force as the means of control. Eisler holds that humans have lived primarily within dominator systems for the last 10,000 years. Prior to that, when humans lived in small bands of hunter-gatherers, they lived within partnership social structures, based on mutual respect. 
n partnership systems, people are recognized as having a strong innate desire to contribute to the well-being of others and the welfare of the whole. Open, respectful communication – working things out together – is the tool used to maintain social order. Force, or fear of force, is not needed. Eisler feels that a return to partnership systems is badly needed in today’s world to remedy the greed, violence and disregard for others that is endemic around us. She has promoted partnership structures in economic and political systems, in communities, schools and families.
You may be able to sense that dominator systems are related to the older, mechanistic view of the world, while partnership systems are related to the network or connected systems approach that is now coming to the fore. It is sobering to note how many of our traditional ways of parenting or teaching children spring from the dominator system: “You will do as I say because I am your parent, or your teacher, and if you don’t, there will be consequences.” 
Imposing our ways on these New Children simply doesn’t seem to work – they just resist or ignore. What does work is to treat them with respect, humor, playfulness and presence. They need to know that we are with them, willing to help them accomplish goals that make sense to them. They respond to inspiration and loving guidance, but try to control them arbitrarily and you’ll have a fight on your hands! 
The articles to follow will explore some of the challenges that the New Children may be facing, and alternative ways to interact with them that are more likely to lead to harmonious and joyful outcomes for all concerned.

 Many of the children who have recently been born into our world are wise
 beyond their years, often highly intuitive, intelligent, and creative, yet
 also often extremely headstrong, sometimes too active for older folk to keep
 up with, other times delicate and shy, often passionate in expressing their
 needs and preferences.&nbsp;



 These children can be challenging.&nbsp;They are born with qualities that
 are uncomfortable for us, that will be needed in our ever more chaotic
 world. And they face multiple challenges that earlier generations did not
 have to deal with.



 Our world has never been an easy place.&nbsp;Humans have always had to deal
 with environmental adversities, and the resulting displacements and
 famines.&nbsp;We have struggled with our fellow humans through social
 inequality, conflict, domination, violence, etc.&nbsp;But there are
 present-day sources of distress that were not there for our grandparents or
 great-grandparents – electromagnetic radiation, electronic screens, toxins
 in our food, water, air, and homes, and ever increasing levels of stress, to
 name a few.&nbsp;These adversities impact all of us, particularly our
 children with their sensitive, developing nervous systems.&nbsp;

 Here we will consider electromagnetic radiation. Some of the information is
 sobering,&nbsp;but there are things we can do.&nbsp;This series of articles

 August 2020, highlighted the fact that stress and disintegration can
 be stimulants for living systems (whether cells, people, ecosystems,
 civilizations, or humanity as a whole) to take a leap to a higher level of
 organization.&nbsp;If we guide them well, our children have that special
 spark needed to lead humanity into a thriving future in a new form–a way of
 being we have only dreamed of.

 The Earth’s
 Heartbeat
</h4>


 When we think of electromagnetic radiation, we often think of Wi-Fi, cell
 phones, and 5G, but life on Earth has been intertwined with electromagnetic
 fields since it first emerged billions of years ago. The natural
 electromagnetic fields were our womb, the matrix within which life
 developed.&nbsp;



 It is the Earth’s magnetic field that moves the needle of a compass, and
 helps guide birds and other animals in their migrations. The Earth is bathed
 in electromagnetic frequency.&nbsp;This frequency was first calculated by
 the German physicist Winifred Otto Schumann, who proposed that extremely low
 frequency waves, sparked by lightning, circle the Earth.&nbsp;Maybe you can
 picture these waves, bouncing from the ground to the ionosphere in a kind of
 dance, some joining together, others overlapping, creating a rhythm with a
 long-lasting base note and effervescent harmonics at higher
 frequencies.&nbsp;This is the exquisite heartbeat of the Earth. Schumann
 calculated the base frequency of these waves as 7.83 Hertz. This has been
 empirically verified and is known as the Schumann Resonance.



 Imagine the astonishment of Schumann and his colleagues when they realized
 that this frequency is almost identical to the brain’s alpha wave rhythm,
 measured as 7.812 Hz. Surely this is not a coincidence. The human brain, an
 electrical organ, must have evolved in synchrony with the Earth’s natural
 electromagnetic field. They began to see human brain waves as intimately
 connected with the Earth’s electromagnetic frequencies, and their research
 confirmed that human health and well-being are influenced by electromagnetic
 interactions.&nbsp;

 German physicist
 Winifred Otto Schumann proposed
 that extremely low
 frequency waves, sparked by lightning, circle the Earth.&nbsp; Maybe you can picture
 these waves, bouncing from the ground to the ionosphere in a kind of dance, some
 joining together, others overlapping, creating a rhythm with a
 long-lasting base note and effervescent harmonics at higher frequencies.&nbsp; This is the exquisite
 heartbeat of the Earth.

 Later researchers have expanded on this.&nbsp;In one interesting experiment,
 Professor Rutger Wever of the Max Planck Institute had student volunteers
 live for four weeks in an underground bunker that excluded the Earth’s
 electromagnetic field.&nbsp;After a few days, his subjects experienced
 disrupted circadian rhythms, headaches, and emotional malaise.&nbsp;Then,
 when Wever artificially introduced the Schumann Resonance into the bunker,
 unbeknown to the students, their health and well-being quickly
 stabilized.1 After extensive research, NASA introduced Schumann
 Resonance generators into space craft to maintain the health of the
 astronauts. Just as a young infant needs to hear their mother’s heartbeat
 for well-being, we humans need to feel the pulse of our mother Earth.&nbsp;

 Electromagnetic Radiation (EMR)

 We think that life began evolving on Earth between 3.7 and 4.3 billion years
 ago, cradled in the Earth’s natural magnetic and frequency fields, and that
 Homo sapiens appeared around 300,000 years ago. For all but the last 150 of
 those years, we were cradled in the Earth’s natural fields.&nbsp;



 In the early 20th century, scientists and engineers began
 experimenting with ways to capture and use human-produced electromagnetic
 fields.&nbsp;By the mid 20th century, homes had electricity, then
 telephones, radios and televisions were introduced.&nbsp;Telephone lines and
 high voltage electric lines crisscrossed the countryside.&nbsp;What an
 exciting and freeing revolution it must have been!&nbsp;No-one thought about
 possible unintended consequences.

 Inventions snowballed – computers, internet, Wi-Fi, and cell phones with
 ever faster and more powerful cellular networks. Radio waves and microwaves
 beamed from towers and satellites. Smart electric meters, smart televisions,
 smart refrigerators, smart thermostats, all beamed waves back and forth to
 talk to each other.&nbsp;We now live in a thick electromagnetic soup,
 millions of times more powerful than the electromagnetic radiation in which
 we evolved.



 The Schumann Resonance cannot even be measured near cities, cell phone
 towers, or high-power lines now.&nbsp;Many of us are living without our
 mother Earth’s heartbeat. It is drowned out by a huge roar.



 The huge number of artificial EMFs is not the only problem. There is also
 the frequency.&nbsp;The frequency of the Schumann Resonance is an extremely
 low 7.83 Hz.&nbsp;The frequencies of the EMR surrounding us is many millions
 of times higher than the Schumann Resonance (see the chart below).&nbsp;The
 electromagnetic roar that surrounds us is both huge and extremely high
 pitched.&nbsp;We may not hear it, but our cells do!

 EMR on our Bodies

 Our bodies use electrical charge for many processes.&nbsp;Neurons use
 electrical charge to send signals to one another; hearts use electrical
 charge to contract and pump blood throughout the body; and muscles use
 electrical charge to contract, allowing us to move.&nbsp;The body also uses
 electric charge to maintain the integrity of important barriers like the
 blood-brain, blood-eye, blood-placenta, and blood-testes barriers, to
 determine what is and is not allowed into these important and sensitive
 organs.&nbsp;



 Looking more deeply, almost every cell in our bodies depends on electrical
 charge to operate small channels through its membrane that allow some
 substances in and keep others out.&nbsp;Malfunction of these channels can
 cause oxidative stress, free radical damage to the DNA and other cellular
 structures, and even cell death.

 fields.&nbsp;It is not a big leap to imagine that massive bombardment with
 artificial EMFs could be disruptive to the delicate electro-chemical balance
 of our bodies.&nbsp;And that is exactly what a growing body of research
 indicates.&nbsp;&nbsp;



 Bio initiative 2012, updated in 2022,2 is probably the most
 comprehensive review of studies on the adverse health effects of EMFs.
 Prepared by 29 doctors, scientists, and health experts from around the
 world, it has reviewedaround1800 studies on adverse health effects of EMFs
 produced by sources like powerlines, electrical wiring, appliances, cell and
 cordless phones, cell towers, Wi-Fi, laptops, routers, baby monitors,
 surveillance systems, and wireless utility meters.&nbsp;&nbsp;



 These studies found evidence that EMR within the ranges commonly encountered
 in modern life can cause:

 Disruption to calcium channels in cell membranes, flooding cells with
 calcium and causing oxidative stress and damage to DNA, mitochondria, and
 cytochromes.
 </li>

 <li>
 Opening the blood brain barrier, allowing potential toxins and
 microorganisms to enter.
 </li>

 <li>Changes to neuron firing rates.</li>

 <li>Changes to the heart muscle and blood vessels.</li>

 <li>
 Decrease in melatonin production.&nbsp;Melatonin is needed for good sleep,
 and also supports the immune system, body mass regulation, bone formation
 and the body’s ability to detoxify.
 </li>
</ul>

Also that EMR negatively impacts:&nbsp;

<ul>
 <li>Sleep, energy levels, and immune function.</li>

 <li>Mood and cognitive function.</li>

 <li>Fertility and reproduction.</li>

 <li>Fetal development.</li>

 <li>Behavior and learning in children.</li>
</ul>

And increases the risk of:&nbsp;

<ul>
 <li>Brain tumors, acoustic neuromas, and other cancers.</li>

 <li>ADHD, and possibly autism in children.</li>
</ul>

 article from my home, using several printed books (most of them bought
 online), accessing other books on my e-reader, and using many online
 resources.&nbsp;Communication, convenience, and access to resources using
 EMFs have become a part of our lives, almost the cement holding our social
 and economic systems together.&nbsp;But with the research that is emerging
 about EMR’s harmful effects, we must give careful thought about when and how
 to use this modern magic.&nbsp;&nbsp;

<h3 style="text-align:center;">AN ART ESSAY</h3>Abstract art is an ideal way to express matters of the spirit that can’t be easily verbalized. It transcends the boundaries of language, drawing viewers into an internalized space where they can experience the artwork in a personal, subjective way, extracting whatever meaning it stirs up inside them. I generally don’t assign any specific meaning to my abstract art, because I prefer the viewer to interpret each piece in his or her own unique way. The colors and chaos paradoxically induce a quiet mental stillness, as I allow my eyes and mind to travel across the many details without assigning meaning to what I’m seeing. I just let the art take me for a ride.<img src="https://cdn-prod-static.heartfulness.org/orderlychaos2_d7c2c15a70.jpg?updated_at=2023-04-04T14:42:11.583Z" alt="orderly-chaos">My abstract art explores how color, pattern, composition and personal symbology express the mystery and delight of our existence. It is often highly detailed because of my desire to achieve balance through multiplicity, in order to reflect the complexity of human consciousness and our shared experience in the multiverse. I am particularly influenced and inspired by folk art from cultures around the world, such as Persian miniatures, Mexican huichol and alebrije, Aboriginal dot painting.
