Social and Emotional Index – A Heartful Insights

The importance of Social and Emotional Intelligence is becoming very evident and the need for Socio-Emotional Learning (SEL) amongst students as well as teachers is increasing day by day. SEL is the process of developing self-awareness, self-control, and interpersonal skills that are vital for school, work, and life.

One can clearly understand the role of the “mind and the heart” in this SEL space. Being mindful and heartful, being aware, demonstrating practical empathy, developing leadership skills, having heartful communication, developing clarity in thinking and leading a balanced life full of poise and joy is the aim of Heartfulness practices.

Heartfulness is all about living one’s life with the guidance of the Heart and it offers a simple and effective set of practices of relaxation and meditation to all humanity. These Heartfulness practices help us connect with our heart, regulate our mind, and nurture inner strength and attitudes enabling inner excellence & overall well-being.

Heartfulness Education Trust (HET) was born with the vision to enable teachers and students to live a balanced, purposeful, happy life through heart-based practices so that they are equipped to contribute to sustainable school reform and community citizenship. HET offers programs for teachers and students to develop essential life-skills, Emotional and Social Intelligence, manage their overall well-being and create a poised approach to wise decision-making.

As a part of our initiative, HET is very happy to roll-out this program called “Social and Emotional Index – A Heartful Insights”, a simple and easy way for students and schools to benchmark their Social and Emotional Index by participating in an online questionnaire that measures the Social and Emotional Quotient (SEQ) of their students.

Participating in this program is very easy and it involves two simple steps. Step – 1 is for a school to register its intent to participate in this benchmark by sharing some basic information about their school. Once this is done, a unique online link will be given to the school which will allow students from their school to participate in Step – 2 of the program where students will be posed with 25 MCQ questions. All these MCQ questions will take various approaches to test the Social and Emotional intelligence levels of the students.

There is no right or wrong answer”, however, different approaches will have different weightages and hence it will lead to different insights. The overall average evaluation of the school will give a clear insight into the Socio Emotional Index of the school.
