Kirsten Doyle, one of Toronto’s top thirty parenting bloggers and named among the “Top Ten Inspiring Canadian Women” in 2012, was born in South Africa, where she started her professional life as a computer programmer. In 2000, she moved to Toronto to work there. In 2013, she gave up life in the corporate world to be a full time writer and editor who focuses on all aspects of physical, mental and environmental health.
Kirsten holds a Bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Cape Town, and she is an outspoken advocate for mental health awareness. Each year, she participates in the Bell Let’s Talk campaign, a major Canadian initiative in support of mental health. As a regular half-marathoner, she is a firm believer in the link between mental health and physical activity.
On the personal front, Kirsten is married with two boys. Her older son, who is now thirteen, was diagnosed with autism when he was almost four. As she has navigated the autism journey, she has had a close view of how families can be impacted by the presence of a developmental disability. She founded her blog, Running for Autism, to write about her experiences as an autism parent.
Kirsten is actively involved in various aspects of the autism community. She and her blog are resources for parents of newly diagnosed children who need to feel less alone and overwhelmed. It is her belief that with the right environment and support, all children with autism are capable of shining in their own special way.
