In this webinar, Kasha Sequoia Slavner, will share her journey of using filmmaking as a means to express her activism. Her new documentary, 1.5 Degrees of Peace will highlight the interconnectedness between peace, conflict, and disarmament, and how they are linked to climate justice, and the current climate crisis. She shares her insights as a youth activist, looking to share the work of other young changemakers who are bridging the gaps to unify and strengthen these two movements.
Speaker: Kasha Sequoia Slavner, Kasha is a Gen-Z filmmaker, photographer, writer, social entrepreneur and passionate advocate for climate justice, peace, and gender equality. She works full-time on her positive impact media organization, She founded The Global Sunrise Project, when she was 15 years old. Kasha is a frequent UN Youth Delegate, a Diana Award & Kim Phuc Youth Peace Award recipient, one of the Voices of SDG16+ and a 2021 Global Youth Climate Network Ambassador. Her first feature documentary, The Sunrise Storyteller, was screened at over 60 film festivals and won 29 awards.
She uses her storytelling platform to conduct educational outreach, screenings, exhibitions and workshops for young people and helps empower students to become civically engaged by using their unique talents and skills to make a positive impact in their local or global community. Her next documentary, 1.5 Degrees of Peace explores the intersection between peace and climate justice, and shows how youth are bringing together the two movements to create a just, peaceful, and sustainable future.
