Effect of a Web-Based Heartfulness Program on the Mental Well-Being, Biomarkers, and Gene Expression Profile of Health Care Students: Randomized Controlled Trial

This randomized controlled trial assessed the impact of a 12-week online Heartfulness meditation program on health care students.

The primary objective of this study was to evaluate the impact of a web-based Heartfulness meditation program on mental well-being, physiological biomarkers, and gene expression profiles among healthcare students. The core hypothesis posits that regular participation in Heartfulness practices can lead to measurable improvements in psychological health and biological markers associated with stress and well-being.

Technical Approach:

The researchers conducted a randomized controlled trial involving healthcare students. Participants were randomly assigned to either the intervention group, which participated in the Heartfulness program, or a control group with no intervention. The Heartfulness program was delivered online and included guided meditation sessions, relaxation techniques, and self-reflection exercises over a specified period. Pre- and post-intervention assessments were conducted to measure changes in mental well-being, biomarkers, and gene expression.

The integration of psychological assessments with biomarker and gene expression analyses provides a holistic understanding of meditation's impact. While the findings are promising, further research with diverse populations and longer follow-up periods is recommended to validate and extend these results.
