“Children’s capacity to achieve goals, work effectively with others and manage emotions will be essential to meet the challenges of the 21st century” (OECD, 2015). The speaker will introduce Social Emotional Learning (SEL) and how SEL can help to handle the intense emotions, navigate through difficulties and feel valued, especially for adolescents. Based on her experience as a middle school educator, a curriculum researcher, a parent of three teens and a heartfulness practitioner, she will share tools and techniques that can be used for focus on growth mindsets, relaxation and social skills. She will also talk about research and data to support SEL for adolescents.
Dr. Ranjani Iyer is an educator and curriculum developer with several years of global experience. She is currently working as a middle school teacher in a charter school in Detroit. She has developed programs for children on values and character education. She is also working on implementing Heartfulness programs for schools to promote social emotional learning and holistic development of the future generation. She has published articles in international peer reviewed journals in the field of Education. She has a doctorate degree in Education and MS in Mathematics.
Dr. Iyer started practicing Heartfulness meditation in 1993 while in High School. She regularly conducts Heartfulness wellness programs at many multinational corporations and schools.
