Introduction
Our primary goal is to plant at-least 30 million native and endemic trees across India by 2025.
In order to achieve this goal, a team of forestry, agro-forestry and climate experts are guiding the project and will continue to do so for the next 5 years. Under their guidance, as a first step, nurseries are being developed in 18 cities across the country.
Saplings of carefully selected tree and plant species are raised in these nurseries during non-plantation season every year between October & May.
Mass plantation of these saplings takes place every year between June – September (monsoon) and Jan – Feb (late winter). This will be carried out by the Heartfulness volunteers, farmers, NGOs, school children and general public. Planted saplings will be effectively monitored and nurtured by providing optimum conditions for growth to ensure high survival rate.
FBH has already conducted a successful mass plantation drive in the year 2019 covering 64 cities – 64,000 trees – in one day through its volunteers and its partnering organizations

Selected Projects
Zscaler is celebrating 15 years of its existence and to commemorate this significant milestone, volunteers of the company will be planting 15,000 saplings throughout India, continuing its history of engaging employees to give back to communities.
Forests By Heartfulness collaborated with Bosch Global Software Technologies to plant 25,000 saplings of forest variety across 3 cities including Hyderabad, Bengaluru & Coimbatore to commemorate 25 years of their legacy in India.
Several trees identified for felling during city development projects have been translocated and rescued.
The thriving ecosystem at Kanha has been created in the last 5 years starting from a barren land. And it is fast becoming a model for best practices in nurturing India’s mega-biodiversity, saving endangered and rare species, creating medicinal gardens, and a sanctuary for wild birds and reptiles.
We are developing sacred groves including gardens of edible wild herbs and shrubs, edible wild fruit and tubers, medicinal plants for primary healthcare and wellness, skincare, and haircare.
We have adopted the latest technologies with scientific planning and traditional know-how, to create an ex-situ conservation center in Kanha Shanti Vanam replete with resplendent green spaces.
Each one, Teach One, How to Plant One has been a significant campaign in this journey, enabling the plantation of more than 100,000 trees on campus. With a team of dedicated volunteers, including the children of Kanha, we are aspiring to finish four significant projects in the coming months:
India’s Badminton star P V Sindhu launched the nationwide environmental initiative Forests by Heartfulness to celebrate India’s best ever performance at the Tokyo Olympics by planting 7 lakh trees by end of 2021.
This drive aims to plant saplings in various land pockets, including schools and colleges, industrial lands, village panchayat lands, private farmer lands, and individual homes. Each sapling will be geo-tagged to monitor and track its growth accurately. Carefully selected trees native to the region and with medicinal values will be a part of the drive. The campaign is open to all. People can join the initiative by volunteering in plantation drives, offering their land for plantation, or adopting the planted trees for a small donation.
In 2018, the Kanha nursery team adopted 6.5 acres of hilly land in Mahabubnagar and created a rainforest for the purpose of Eco-Tourism. 3000 forest variety saplings are planted in the barren land and ecopark is handed over to Mahabubnagar district administration for opening to tourists.
Seeds are most viable for germination when they are collected and planted fresh. FBH is organizing a neighborhood seed collection drive of native trees and planting them in our nurseries to produce millions of tiny saplings of native trees which will be used in our plantation drives.
Start a plantation drive near you
01.
Identify Land and make sure you have permission to plant trees there. Think about water source, fencing and protection for saplings. Download guidance for identifying the right land for plantation.
02.
Identify the members who will join you for plantation drive.
03.
Can be sourced from FBH nurseries (hyperlink with nursery sites) if you are within 100 km radius. Otherwise source them from a local nursery to save on transportation costs.
04.
Prepare site for plantation. Source farmyard manure if possible. Keep saplings ready.
05.
Arrive early at the site. If possible, conduct meditation for all volunteers before starting work. Click pictures of the team and email them to fbh@heartfulness.org.
06.
Water the saplings regularly for a year, especially in dry season.
