As a Man Thinketh
James Allen (1864-1912) was a British philosophical writer and pioneer of the self help movement. He wrote nineteen books, and published a magazine, The Light of Reason, later known as The Epoch. As a Man Thinketh is Allen’s second book, published in 1903. Although it is his most popular and eloquent work, he was dissatisfied with it, and had to be persuaded to publish it by his wife. It has since become very influential in mystical traditions as it addresses the nature of thought and the mind. This “little volume”, as Allen called it, has helped millions of readers to understand that we can remake our lives and transform our destiny through the right application of thought.
